Nassau, January 23, 2020. Cuban Ambassador Alejandro García del Toro welcomed today, in the diplomatic mission of our country in Nassau, Mr. Perry Christie, former Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. The prominent Bahamian politician, of the Progressive Liberal Party, held the position between 2002 and 2007, and subsequently in the period 2012 to 2017.
In the cordial meeting, both exchanged on different moments of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In that context, Perry Christie highlighted the collaboration in education, which has allowed the performance of Cuban teachers in Bahamian schools. In that area, he made particular mention of the work of the island's specialists in Special Education, whose experience and dedication have been remarkable. He also recalled his historical meetings with the Leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro and with the Army General, Raúl Castro Ruz during his visits to Cuba to participate in CARICOM meetings.
The Cuban ambassador, Alejandro García del Toro, said that our government has an interest in continuing to expand bilateral ties, especially in areas where we face similar challenges such as climate change, confrontation with disasters and the development of renewable energy.
The meeting was also attended by Yusimí Pompa Santos, first secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in The Bahamas.
