The Government of Guyana ratifies the interest of expanding and strengthening Cuba's Cooperation in the Public Health sector.


Georgetown, February 9, 2020. From February 7 to 9, a delegation from the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, chaired by Vice Minister Dr. Alfredo González Lorenzo, made a working visit to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and also integrated by Dr. Michelle Santana Iglesias, Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Central Unit of Medical Cooperation.

The Delegation developed an intense program of activities which included a working meeting with the Minister of Public Health of Guyana, Honorable Volda Lawrence, who expressed her gratitude and highlighted the importance of the collaboration Cuba has provided to her country in the field of Health and the willingness to continue working together for strengthening and widening the collaboration.

The Head of the International Collaboration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Forbes July, also participated in the meeting. Ms. Collet Adams, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Shamdeo Persaud, Chief of Medical Services, Dr. Sawcett Jeffrey, Director of Medical and Professional Services of the Georgetown Public Hospital and Dr. Veronica Griffith, Coordinator for the attention of the Cuban Medical Brigade. On the Cuban side, Ambassador Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro and the official of the diplomatic mission, Mayra de la Caridad León Pérez.

During his stay in Guyanese land, the Delegation of Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, accompanied by the Ambassador, held meetings with the Cuban collaborators who provide services in the cities of Georgetown, New Amsterdam and Mahaicony, whom Vice Minister Dr. Alfredo Gonzalez Lorenzo congratulated on the results of their work. The collaborators, in turn, expressed their willingness to continue contributing to the health of the Guyanese people.
