Kingston, Jamaica, 22 March, 2020. Traveling on a Cubana de Aviación flight, 138 Cuban healthcare professionals, trained in coping with disaster situations and serious epidemics, arrived in Jamaica at noon this Saturday to join the country’s fight against the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 virus spread.
The group, made up of 70% women, was received by the Minister of Health of Jamaica, the Honourable Dr. Christopher Tufton, and by the Ambassador of Cuba, Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández. Minister Tufton took the opportunity to thank the Cuban government and people for supporting his nation in the fight against this global pandemic.
Throughout the day, they received numerous expressions of gratitude and affection from members of the Cabinet, politicians and the brother Jamaican people in general.
This delegation joins the 296 members of the Cuban Medical Brigade who are already serving in Jamaica, under the Agreement for Technical Assistance signed between the Ministries of Public Health of both countries.
Cuban healthcare professionals have a well-deserved international prestige for their dedication and professionalism in caring for victims of natural disasters and epidemics such as Ebola and cholera.
