Kingston, Jamaica, 14 June 2020. This June 14, all staff members of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Jamaica commemorated the 175th and 92nd anniversaries of the births of two great figures in the history of Cuba: Lieutenant General of the Liberation Army, Major General Antonio Maceo Grajales, and the Heroic Guerrilla, Commander Ernesto Guevara de la Serna.
In an activity chaired by the Head of the State Mission, Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, the Third Secretary of Consular Affairs, Mr. Ulises Calvo Borges, established a parallel between the lives of these two distinguished fighters for the independence of Cuba and called to continue their example of revolutionary intransigence.
Other members of the collective recited 'El general Antonio!' by Manuel Navarro Luna, a poet born in Manzanillo; and 'Ché Comandante', by Nicolás Guillén, the Cuban National Poet.
This event, which is traditionally held in Jamaica next to the bust of Maceo in the Kingston National Heroes Park and with a significant participation of Cuban residents - whose association is named after the illustrious patriot -, members of the Cuban education and health cooperation brigades and Jamaican friends of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, was held this year on the premises of the diplomatic mission, with a small number of participants, in observance of the measures taken in the country to control the spread of Covid-19.
