Kingston, Jamaica, 15 July 2020. Dr. Morais Guy, a member of the Parliament of Jamaica for the Saint Mary Central constituency, visited the Cuban Embassy this Wednesday, an opportunity seized by Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández and the Chief of the Cuban Medical Brigade, Dr. José Armando Arronte Villamarín, to recognize the firm position of the People's National Party of Jamaica - expressed in recent statements by the parliamentarian - against the attempt by three US senators to promote a bill criminalizing Cuba’s international medical cooperation and the countries that benefit from it.
During the meeting, the opposition politician recalled the close friendship between leaders Fidel Castro and Michael Manley, the long-standing cooperation between Cuba and Jamaica and Jamaica's traditional support for the lifting of the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba.
In turn, Ambassador Fors Fernández ratified Cuba's will to continue expanding and strengthening cooperation with Jamaica, despite the difficulties posed by the Blockade, and thanked the sustained stance of Jamaican parliamentarians, expressed through the approval during the last eleven years of ten resolutions against such a genocidal policy.
