Kingston, Jamaica, 24 July 2020. Inspired by the example of the young men that carried out the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, some 40 members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica - including part of the Embassy’s staff and members of the Cuban Medical and Education brigades- joined in a massive blood donation this morning to support Jamaica's efforts to combat Covid-19 and to commemorate, with an altruistic gesture worthy of those killed in that feat, the 67th Anniversary of the Day of National Rebellion.
At the National Blood Transfusion Service in this capital alone, 22 members of the mission, including 8 women, volunteered to donate, while in other parts of the country with less presence of Cuban professionals such as Falmouth (Trelawny parish), Port María (St. Mary), St. Ann Bay (St. Ann), Mandeville (Manchester), Savanna la Mar (Westmoreland) and Montego Bay (St. James) more discreet figures were recorded, equally demonstrating Cuban workers’ spirit of solidarity.
Before leaving the donation room, Dr. José Armando Arronte - Chief of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica and coordinator of the activity - reaffirmed the willingness of Cuba’s "army of white coats" to provide their humanitarian support in the most remote corners of the world, despite the ongoing campaign to discredit Cuba's international medical cooperation and the economic, commercial and financial blockade that attempts to force our people to surrender from hunger, because - as Fidel said - "doctors, not bombs" is what the world needs and expects from us.
