CubaONU pays homage to the work and thinking of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the 94th anniversary of his birth

New York, 13 August 2020.  As in many parts of the world, the staff of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations held a meeting to pay homage to the work and thinking of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the 94th anniversary of his birth.

Several members of the diplomatic mission who participated in the ceremony stated that is very difficult to reflect the life of Fidel in few words, focused in his permanent and indissoluble bond with the people, brilliant rhetoric, devotion to the word, constant teaching, inexhaustible patience, ironclad discipline and boundless dedication to the cause of the Revolution.

It was stressed that future generations of Cubans will have in him, as in Martí, a paradigm and deep motivation to continue his work. Fidel will continue to be the beacon in the multilateral context; he was the one who globally promoted the struggle of the Third World against the current international economic order, particularly against external debt, wars and neoliberal globalization. He was also a strong advocate of the unity of peoples of the south and Latin American and Caribbean integration.

It was also recalled that it was the thinking and political practice of Fidel against the US imperialism which kept the Revolution upright, while the example of his determination urges us to overcome any obstacle, threat or turmoil in the path of the construction of socialism in Cuba.

The ceremony concluded with the poem Oda a Fidel (Song to Fidel) written by the Cuban poet Carilda Oliver Labra, read by young Cuban diplomats ready to follow his example:

Thank you for your dignity,

thank you for your faithful rifle,

for your pen and your paper,

 for your male groin.

Thank you for your heart.

Thank you for everything, Fidel!
