Kingston, Jamaica, 24 September 2020. Radio Bess FM 100, a Jamaican radio station, dedicated its morning programme "The Morning Connection" today to inform the audience about Cuba’s scientific achievements and its healthcare workers’ contribution to the fight against Covid-19 in Jamaica.
The programme, broadcasted between 06:00 and 10:00 AM (local time), was hosted by Dr. Louis Moyston and had, among others, Mr. Trevor Brown, President of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association ( JCFA); Matthias Brown, JCFA Vice President and chair of its Westmoreland branch; Dr. José Armando Arronte, Head of the Cuban Medical Mission in Jamaica; and Doctors Neville Graham and Lorenzo Gordon, members of the Board of the Association of Jamaicans Graduated in Cuba, participating. All guests provided extensive information on Cuba's progress in the creation and use of new drugs to combat Covid-19 and on the role of Cuba’s healthcare professionals in the context of the pandemic.
Particularly interesting were their reflections on the impact of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba's ability to successfully combat Covid-19 in its territory and help other sister nations. Significant as well were those referring to the scientific potential demonstrated by Cuba by producing several drugs created in the island’s research centres for the treatment of choice against Covid-19; and by becoming one of the few countries in the world with two Covid-19 vaccine candidates in clinical trial phase; as well as those on the US government’s moves to discredit Cuba's international medical cooperation.
