Kingston, Jamaica, 23 October 2020. The Minister of Education of Jamaica, Fayval Williams, officially welcomed 18 new Cuban teachers who will teach Spanish and exact science lessons in various schools on the Caribbean island.
The new Cuban teachers join other 68 who serve in Jamaica under the Agreement for Cooperation in Education for Professional and Academic Support, signed between the Ministries of Education of Cuba and Jamaica.
In her remarks, the Minister of Education of Jamaica offered a warm welcome to the teachers and referred to the traditional cooperation that the Greatest Island in the Antilles has provided to her country not only in the field of Education, but also in Public Health.
For her part, the Ambassador of Cuba, Inés Fors Fernández, conveyed her government's will to continue supporting Jamaica in the noble purposes of achieving quality education for all.
The ceremony, which was held virtually, was also attended by Dr. Grace McLean, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica, and other directors from that institution.
Cuba and Jamaica’s cooperation in this sector began in 1997.
