Nairobi, March 2.Honorable Justin Muturi, President of the National Assembly of Kenya, received this morning the Ambassador of Cuba in this country, Ernesto Gómez Díaz, who paid him a courtesy call at the Kenyan Parliament.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat sent the greetings of his Cuban counterpart Esteban Lazo Hernández and updated the parliamentary leader on the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries, and the future prospects that are opening for its strengthening. He also expressed the willingness of the Caribbean island to increase the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies and thanked Kenya for its support in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and for the opening of its Embassy in Havana in 2016.
For his part, Muturi recognized the role played by Cuba in the fight against colonialism in Africa and thanked the cooperation it has maintained with this continent for decades, despite the economic difficulties that it has faced. In another moment of his conversation, the President of the National Assembly called for strengthening ties with the Cuban Parliament and reflected on the challenges that climate change has brought to his country, especially the harmful effects that are leaving the prolonged drought in Kenya.
The meeting took place in a climate of friendship and respect, typical of the current good state of relations between Kenya and Cuba.
