Kingston, Jamaica, 15 January 2021.- The Jamaica - Cuba Friendship Association issued this Friday a statement of support for Cuba after the recent inclusion of the island in the unilateral United States’ list of “state sponsors of terrorism.”
Below, we reproduce excerpts from the text of the declaration:
Statement against Cuba’s designation as a sponsor of state terrorism
The Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association joins with the rest of progressive humanity to rebuke in the strongest terms, the attempts by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to smear and besmirch the good name and international prestige of Cuba as a ‘sponsor of state terrorism’.
Ironically, Cuba has been the victims of state terrorism for 62 years since the triumph of their revolution, which has been financed, organized and supported by the United States of America including mercenary invasion and a never-ending ‘hybrid wars’ up to present day.
We see this jaundiced and pitiful action by the former head of the CIA –turned top diplomat, as a desperate attempt by elements within a morally bankrupt leadership of the empire, to provide a last minute dose of testosterone to an unhinged and delusional president, who despite 200 criminal sanctions against the homeland of Fidel during his period of White House occupancy, has made our sister country stronger and more resolute ,not weaker, in its defense of its inalienable right to sovereignty and to self-determination.
Contrast this with our brothers and sisters in the United States of America, who despite living in a country which is the most economic and militarily powerful in the history of humankind, while inhabiting a mere 4% of the world’s population, now occupies the unenviable position of being responsible for 25% of Covid-19 infection across the world and 20 % of its deaths that is reflected in their 23,133,918 cases and 384,804 deaths.
