Shura Council's Saudi-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Committee Meets with Cuban Ambassador

Saudi-Cuban Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Shura Council received in its venue the Cuban Ambassador to the KSA, Orlando Requeijo Gual, accompanied by Counselor Fernando Duque Gómez.

His Excellency Professor Dr. Ibrahim bin Mahmoud Al-Nahas, Chairman of the Group, welcomed the Cuban diplomats and praised Cuban achievements in health, education, sciences, sports and other fields, as well as the confrontation against the Covid-19 pandemic, with the deployment of Cuban medical teams to different countries. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the participation of Cuban health professionals in the front line of the fighting against this pandemic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, helping to preserve the life of Saudi citizens and expatriates in the Kingdom.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked Dr. Al-Nahas’ words, as well as the statements by other members of the Friendship Group; he insisted in the potential of continuing development of bilateral cooperation in the current fields, as well as in many others, for the sake of the two countries. He also explained the development of five Cuban vaccine candidates against COVID-19, and other biotechnological products developed by Cuban scientists and researchers, despite the many new measures to strengthen the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America on Cuba, reinforced even in the height of the pandemic affecting the world as a whole.

The coordination between the two parliamentary bodies in diverse fora, like the Interparliamentary Union, was also discussed, as well as the necessity of exchanging experiences, taking into account the potentials of each side, as an example of cordial and friendly relations happily existing between both countries.
