Jamaica media highlights regional meetings in Cuba

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, March 13th, 2017. The main media in Jamaica highlighted the Association of Caribbean States (ASC) and the Community of the Caribbean (CARICOM) meetings carried out in Havana last week.

The Observer, one of the two most important newspapers in the country, published in both the printed and digital versions, an article written by the Cuban Ambassador, Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, entitled “The Caribbean can always count on Cuba”.

The head of the Cuban diplomacy in Jamaica stressed the importance of the celebration of the I Conference on Cooperation of the ACS, the XXII Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of ACS and the V Ministerial Meeting CARICOM-Cuba.

Guanche Hernandez also reiterated the profound appreciation of the Cuban people to the Caribbean nations that has offered their solidarity and support to Cuba, in particular, in the just fight against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States.

Likewise, the Ambassador reiterated the willingness of his government to continue supporting the efforts toward regional integration and to strengthen the cooperation in fundamental areas like education, health, response to natural disasters, among others.

The Observer also published another article last Monday, March 13th, highlighting the extension of the accord for economic and trade cooperation that will ease the access of CARICOM products to the Cuban market, issue that was discussed during the meeting held last weekend, in Havana.

Furthermore, the article echoed the diverse statements issued stressing the social impact of the cooperation Cuba offers to the Caribbean peoples, as well as the need for unity to face the external challenges, in an uncertain international context, to guarantee the independence, development and well-being of the region.
