Statement of solidarity from the friends of the Hellenic Cuban Association of Friendship with Cuba in Thessaloniki.
“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the heroic victory of the Cuban Revolution at the Bay of Pigs. It was on April 1961 when the revolutionary army, under the leadership of Fidel Castro, crushed the invasion attempt on U.S. mercenary troops thus forcing U.S. imperialism in a humiliating defeat.
The people and the revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, with the communist men and women being on the forefront, gave a decisive response to imperialism's mercenaries, stopping the counterrevolutionary plans of the Kennedy administration. In critical period, in the midst of the Cold War, it was a victory that debunked the myth of “imperialist superpower” and gave hope the world's peoples.
At the same time, the proclamation of the Revolution's socialist character by Fidel, on April 17, 1961, became the starting point for the consolidation of socialist construction and the conquering of unprecedented social achievements.
The people of Cuba have every right to feel proud for this historic triumph which reminds all of us that the people, who are masters in their own country and determined to defend its independence, can crash any aspiring aggressor.
The 60th anniversary of the victory at the Bay of Pigs has a special meaning today as long as the slanderous campaign against the Cuban Revolution and the undermining of socialist construction by the Euro-Atlantic imperialists, their eager allies and the media that serve their interests, irredicibly continues. At the same time, all those who claimed that the new U.S. administration of President Biden will bring positive changes, have been refuted. The Biden administration maintains fully all the additional measures that the previous Trump government imposed against Cuba.
Today, the defense of Cuba and socialism, the struggle for the elimination of the US-imposed genocidal economic, trade and financial blockade, the promotion of Cuba as a model-state in the sectors of Health and Education, is a duty for every working man and woman, for every progressive person.
The Greek-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity of Thessaloniki, on the ocassion of the 60th anniversary of the triumph at the Bay of Pigs, warmly salutes the Cuban people and underlines that every new attempt against Socialist Cuba will face a new 'Playa Giron'!
