Cuba participated in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

Havana, April 30, 2021. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, participated virtually in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in the city of Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, in the Russian Federation.
In his intervention before the Prime Ministers and other heads of delegations of the Member States, the Cuban Premier reiterated our country's commitment to the Organization in its condition of Observer State, which was approved at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of 11 December 2020.
Marrero Cruz highlighted the special significance that Cuba attaches to the development of close and multifaceted cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, to which we are joined by historical ties in areas of common interest, such as trade, energy, and transportation. , tourism, the iron and steel industry, mining, public health, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Likewise, he highlighted the complexity of the current international situation, marked by the crisis that COVID-19 has unleashed and aggravated by trade wars and unilateral coercive measures. He stressed that our country has had to face these challenges in a context of unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.
The Cuban Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank the EAEU member states for their permanent position of support for the Cuban resolution entitled “The need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” the which will be presented for the twenty-ninth time on June 23, during the resumed session of the 75th period of the UN General Assembly.
This meeting was also attended in person by the Cuban Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Julio Garmendía Peña, permanent representative to the regional organization.
The Council is the body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), made up of the Heads of Government of the Member States, which ensures the implementation and control of the implementation of the Union Treaty, the international treaties within this organization and the decisions of the Supreme Council.
Cuba participated for the first time, as an Observer State, on February 5.
