Havana, June 7, 2021.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stressed this Monday the impact of the United States blockade on private businesses on the island, which have been significantly affected after the resurgence of that policy.
In his Twitter account, the Cuban Foreign Minister affirmed that while the government of that northern country claims to support that sector and seek its prosperity, it maintains the measures that hinder its development and restrict access to the US market.
Recently, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, assured that his country favors private workers, known in Cuba as self-employed.
However, Washington maintains unalterable the economic, commercial and financial siege against the Caribbean island.
These measures were intensified to unprecedented levels during the administration of Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021), with the imposition of more than 240 provisions that include travel limitations, affecting thousands of private workers connected with tourism.
For example, in 2019 alone, close to one million cruise passengers were prevented from touching ports in the largest of the Antilles, which hurt thousands of self-employed businesses dedicated to transportation, accommodation and recreation.
Limitation of flights, unilateral blacklists, persecution of commercial and financial operations, prohibition of sending remittances, and measures to prevent the supply of fuel are part of the arsenal of the US siege against Cuba.
