Philippines-Cuba Cultural and Friendship Association (PHILCUBA) celebrated on Sunday June 20th a  General Special Meeting in solidarity with Cuba and against the blockade.

The online gathering was headed by PHILCUBA´s president Dr. Francisco Nemenzo and HE Florentino Batista, Ambassador of Cuba, with the presence of more than 30 members of that organization.

The welcome remarks were delivered by Dr. Francisco Nemenzo,  while Ambassador Florentino Batista spoke about the current situation of the blockade, and the upcoming debate at United Nations General Assembly of the Cuban Resolution on Wednesday June 23rd.

At the General Meeting, a Statement in Solidarity with Cuba and Against the Blockade was adopted, expressing PHILCUBA’s firm believe that this illegal and unjust persecution of Cuba by the United States should stop now.

The document stressed that, even as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to hit populations and weaken economies, Cuba continues to respond to calls for assistance in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and even in Europe, and the US continues to tighten its grip on the blockade against Cuba.

A message from Fernando Gonzalez, President of Cuban Institute of Friendship, ICAP, was also played during the meeting expressing  gratitude for the steady support coming from Philippines.

The Philippine-Cuba Cultural and Friendship Association Special General Assembly also review the plans for the rest of 2021 including commemorating activities for the 75 Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations, celebrating the legacy of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro, and to showcase the Cuban experience in fighting the pandemic of COVID 19 and developing its own vaccines.
