Chancellor of Barbados welcomes attendees to the 40th anniversary of the terrorist attack.

The Honorable Senator and Barbadian Foreign Minister Maxine McClean, received international delegations from Cuba, the US and the Caribbean attending the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Crime of Barbados. She was accompanied by Mr. Robert Morris, Ambassador to CARICOM, Sandra Gittens, Section Chief of the Caribbean, and other Foreign Ministry officials. The hero Fernando Gonzalez headed the Cuban delegation, composed of Camilo Rojo, a relative of the victims of terrorism, Camila Valdes, Director of the Center for Caribbean Studies at Casa de las Americas and Tania Parra, an official of ICAP, together with Cuban Ambassador. The Caribbean Chapter of the International Network in Defence of Humanity was represented by its coordinator, the Barbadian lawyer David Comissiong, Cikiah Thomas, from Jamaica, Gerald Perreira, from Guyana, Garcin Malsa from Martinique and Luc Guadeloupe and Luc Reinette y Jacqueline Jacqueray, from Guadeloupe. The actor and social activist Danny Glover represented the USA, together with lawyer James Early.
In exchange the gratitude of Cuba to the government of Barbados for its historical position in the fight against terrorism and against the blockade imposed by the US to Cuba was ratified and the Foreign Minister reiterated that she will preside over the delegation of her government to the main event for the crime commemoration, scheduled to be held the next day at the monument erected to the victims of the attack.
Representatives of the Caribbean Network reported in detail to the honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of launching, the same night at UWI-Cave Hill Campus, the global campaign for the UN to declare on 6 October as the International Day to Combat Terrorism. That purpose was considered valid as the appointed day has merit to achieve that goal. It was agreed that it would be evaluated promptly to channel it through the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean Community (COFCOR).
