Statement from the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica 'Antonio Maceo Grajales' on the 63rd anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution:
The Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica 'Major General Antonio Maceo' joyfully salutes the 63rd Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which was undoubtedly an event of universal significance, when for the first time in the 20th century the revolutionary vanguard of a Latin American people managed to snatch, through armed struggle, the political power from the forces of the national oligarchy allied to the imperialism.
This victory, led by the July 26 Movement and the Rebel Army, under the leadership of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in alliance with the March 13 Revolutionary Directorate, the Popular Socialist Party and other revolutionary organizations, and a bitter period of struggles that cost the lives of thousands of Cubans, subjected to murder, torture and the most brutal exploitation by a bloody dictatorship, subjected to foreign domination, paved the way for fundamental transformations that would lead our country since 1961 to the construction of socialism and the strategic alliance with the USSR and the socialist community at international level.
The establishment of the Revolutionary Government of Cuba, the dissolution of the dictatorship’s army and the creation of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, the promulgation of laws like the Agrarian Reform, the Urban Reform and the Literacy Campaign took place in a context of confrontation with imperialist aggressions, through armed uprisings and terrorist actions. Actions and policies aimed at destabilizing the Revolution were rejected and led to the eventual nationalization of US properties in Cuba, the breakdown of diplomatic relations and the beginning of the most comprehensive, meticulously applied and prolonged economic, commercial and financial blockade in history, as well as the failed landing of Playa Girón and the development of armed gangs, organized, armed and sponsored by the United States government through the Central Intelligence Agency.
The policy of hostility and aggression of the successive North American administrations was systematically maintained. The United States kept the Guantanamo Naval Base against the will of the Cuban people and government; and continued to develop assassination plans against Cuban leaders and especially against Fidel Castro, the elements of bacteriological warfare against our country, special operations, sabotage and attacks against Cuban institutions and diplomatic personnel; while the blockade against our country intensified and reached unprecedented levels, accompanied by a systematic campaign of misinformation and lies, and constant pressure and threats on other countries to prevent or restrict their relations with Cuba as much as possible.
Under these conditions, Cuba made extraordinary achievements in its economic, social, scientific, cultural and sports development, while it kept on practicing, firmly and consistently, revolutionary internationalism and solidarity and continued to help other peoples in their struggles for national liberation and economic and social development.
Today, in the face of a complex national and international situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the enormous economic difficulties, exacerbated by the blockade and imperialist aggressions, our people, led by the Communist Party and the Revolutionary Government, strives to overcome these challenges, while it holds high the banners of internationalism and solidarity.
Long live the 63rd Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution!
Hasta la victoria siempre!
Patria o Muerte, Venceremos!
