72 UNGA: Statement by Cuba, High-Level Interactive Dialogue of G-77+China: Innovative Practices for the Financial Inclusion and Economic Empowerment of Women, Especially Rural Women: Lessons from the South”. New York, 13 March 2018.

Mr. Chairman,

My delegation is grateful to you for convening and holding this High-Level Interactive Dialogue on an issue particularly relevant to the nations that are members of the Group of 77 and China.

In the area of gender equality and women's empowerment, the first guarantee is having a juridical-legal framework without any kind of gender discrimination, which enables rural women to empower themselves as human beings in equal rights with men.

72 UNGA: Statement by the Cuban delegation at the general debate on Agenda item 3: Follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly, sub-items a) and b) NY, February 1, 2018.

Mr. Chairman,

As expressed in the Secretary-General's report on the priority issue, in the regions and countries most affected by poverty, statistical indicators show only a slight reduction in extreme poverty rates. More worryingly, this does not indicate that the root causes of this phenomenon have changed or tend to disappear. In reality, the situation remains very serious. In many countries, extreme poverty has continued to grow and, generally speaking, prospects for compliance with Goal 1 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are discouraging.

72 UNGA: Statement delivered by H.E. Mr. Abelardo Moreno, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba at the High-Level Meeting on Cultural Diversity and Human Rights of the Non-Aligned Movement. New York, November 30, 2017.

Mr. Chairman, H. E. Mr. Jorge Arreaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,

Cuba is grateful for the convening and holding of this meeting on such an important and sensitive issue for a group as culturally diverse as the Non-Aligned Movement.

Cultural diversity as the common heritage of humanity must be valued and preserved for the benefit of all. Promoting respect for culture, history, different religions and the distinctiveness of each nation is our duty and our right.

72 UNGA: Address of Cuba at the ECOSOC Meeting on “Aftermath of recent hurricanes and earthquakes: Achieving a risk-informed and resilient 2030 Agenda”. New York, October 24, 2017.

Madam President,

We welcome the convening of this meeting and reiterate Cuba's sincere condolences on the recent natural disasters that have hardly hit several regions of the planet.

The increasingly devastating and frequent impact of natural disasters confirms that climate change is a threat to the survival of humankind and the sustainable development of peoples.

Mr. Chairman,

71 UNGA: Cuba at General Debate of the Eight Working Session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Aging.

Mr. Chairman,

My delegation attaches great importance to the discussion of the issue of population aging in the United Nations, and to the role played by this Working Group since its inception.

Cuba will be one of the two countries in Latin America and the Caribbean with the largest aging population in the near future; for this reason, our country has given priority to elderly care and carries out a multidisciplinary and intersectoral work to guarantee the quality of life of this sector of the population.
