76 UNGA: Statement by Cuba at First regular session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. UNDP Segment. New York, 1 February 2022.

Madam President;

Distinguished members of the Executive Board and other delegations,

We would like to take this opportunity in which the UNOSSC Strategic Framework for the period 2022-2025 is presented, to praise the work carried out by this Office, its Director a.i. Mr. Adel Abdellatif, and his efforts aimed at strengthening the role of South-South cooperation as a resource for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, contributing to improve its integration into the work of the United Nations system.

In the same vein, we appreciate the role of the Office in the development of and follow-up to the United Nations System Joint Strategy on South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development, as well as the strengthening of the United Nations Inter-Agency Mechanism for South-South and Triangular Cooperation. These are major steps toward achieving better articulation and coordination among the different development actors and maximizing the utilization of resources, already scarce.

We would also like to thank the support provided to Cuba through the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund, which has been working with our country for several years with positive results.

For Cuba, South-South cooperation is a mainstay of our international cooperation. Its strengthening and development is a key priority for my delegation, since it contributes to the well-being among the peoples and countries of the South, to our collective independence and to the achievement of internationally agreed development frameworks, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the current fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuba, an underdeveloped country subject to an economic, commercial and financial blockade that still persists, has shown how much can be done with few resources. We share what we have, not what we have to spare, even under complex circumstances such as that of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To conclude, I wish to convey Cuba's willingness to continue to amplify and strengthen the relations with the UNOSSC in the future, while making available to the UNOSSC and the rest of the countries our resources, experiences and capabilities in the field of international cooperation for development. You can count on our humble contribution.

Thank you.
