Mr. President of the Forum and Mr. Moderator
My delegation appreciates the panel presentations. Cuba supports initiatives aimed at ensuring the responsible use of artificial intelligence and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
It is a priority that the AI governance process, in which the United Nations must play a central role, leads to the design of technological systems that avoid the reproduction of stereotypes or any form or manifestation of racism or racial discrimination.
At the same time, it is essential to create the conditions to make this technology available to all nations, especially developing countries. Unilateral coercive measures that impede access to these technologies, with the consequent impact on the economic, scientific and social development of nations, must be eliminated.
AI should be a driver for bridging digital divides, not exacerbate them. Therefore, cooperation in capacity building is a key element.
In May 2024, the Council of Ministers approved the Strategy for the Development and Use of AI in Cuba. As a result, just a few days ago, the SocIA application was presented, the first Cuban sovereign AI platform, which aims to achieve a better synergy of intelligent systems by employing entities.
Finally, I would like to mention the workshop "Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Equity, Rights, Inclusion", held in Havana earlier this year, in collaboration with UNESCO, which reflected on the importance of correcting any bias, discrimination, prejudice or stereotype related to the use of these tools, in order to put AI at the service of all people.
Thank you
