Nachito Herrera and Bobby Carcassés inaugurate Jazz Festival in Cuba

Havana, January 19

Cuban musician and composer Ignacio Nachito Herrera, who lives in the United States, starred in the opening night of the 37th International Jazz Plaza Festival, local media reported today.

During the presentation held the day before at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater, the artist, accompanied by his group Habana Jazz, showed his deep-rootedness for the land that formed him and made the scene his own with a high-flying repertoire.

Guantanamo, the Illegal Pretext to Hold Prisoners of War

“The United States is violating the law by maintaining the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba as a prison, where most of the inmates are being held without criminal charges,” said attorney Thomas B. Wilner categorically during a conversation with this reporter via video call.

Wilner, a prestigious lawyer in his country, is since 2004 the spokesman for a U.S. group of lawyers who represent prisoners of various nationalities who are illegally held in the Cuban territory usurped by Washington since the early 1900s.

15,000 Pounds of powdered milk delivered to Cuba/The People's Forum

On January 15, 2022, the organizations Puentes de Amor, The People’s Forum and CODEPINK are sending a cargo plane loaded with 15,000 pounds of powdered milk from Miami to Cuba. Representatives of the organizations are traveling to Cuba with the shipment. The aid will be received by the Martin Luther King Center in Havana. It will be distributed to pediatric hospitals in Havana.
