This morning, February 3, 2022, within the framework of the sixtieth anniversary of the signing of Proclamation 3447 that formalized the United States government's Blockade against Cuba, it was held at the Amphitheater of the "Enrique José Varona" a conversation between colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) and students and professors from the University of Havana (UH).

The revolutionary government condemns the continuance for over 60 years of the economic, commercial and financial sanctions formally imposed by the United States on 3rd February 1962. On that date, the then president, John F. Kennedy, issued Proclamation 3447, “Embargo on All Trade with Cuba” under Section 620(a) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. He thereby conferred official status on the unilateral economic hostilities already in effect against Cuba since our country’s revolutionary victory.

The Helms-Burton Act and the extraterritoriality of the United States blockade against Cuba

New York, February 1, 2022. Since its entry into force in 1996, the Cuban Democratic Freedom and Solidarity Act, also known as Helms-Burton, codified the blockade against Cuba and strengthened its extraterritorial reach, aimed at internationalizing the blockade through coercive measures against third countries, in order to hinder and interrupt their trade and investment relations with Cuba.
