Defence Minister welcomes Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam

Defence Minister Gen. Phan Van Giang hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 17 for new Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén, during which he wished the latter will have a successful working tenure and contribute to enhancing the bilateral relations.

He took the occasion to thank Cuba for helping Vietnam fight the COVID-19 pandemic by providing treatment drugs, sending experienced medical experts, and presenting 150,000 doses of vaccine to his ministry.

Mr. President, 

Last 26 February, the Cuban Government issued a Statement on the events in Ukraine, clearly adopting a stance in favor of a solution that guarantees the security and sovereignty of all and addresses legitimate humanitarian concerns.

The U.S. determination to continue NATO’s progressive expansion towards the Russian Federation borders has brought about a scenario with implications of unpredictable scope, which could have been avoided.

United States’ and NATO’s military moves towards regions adjacent to the Russian Federation in recent months, preceded by the delivery of modern weapons to Ukraine, which together conform a military siege, are well known.

The digital newspaper VnExpress highlighted last Saturday that “massive vaccination coverage in Cuba and the early plan to inoculate its children were essential to defeat omicron on the island.”

In an article entitled “Strategies to help Cuba defeat omicron”, the Vietnamese journal said that the vaccination strategy against Covid-19, with a particular focus on young children, was the key measure of the Cuban government to face the new SARS-CoV-2 variant.
