8th Anniversary of the Eternal Commander

Abuja, November 25, 2024.- On the morning of today, November 25, a heartfelt tribute to the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, took place at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria, on the occasion of the 8th Anniversary of his physical disappearance.

The event was chaired by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Miriam Morales Palmero and was attended by Ambassadors from Algeria, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Venezuela and Namibia, as well as members of the Movement of Solity with Cuba, students graduated in Cuba, Cuban residents and members of the Embassy.

Below are the central words of the event pronounced by the Ambassador of Cuba.

Dear comrades and brothers present. I would like to thank you on behalf of our Embassy for your presence at the tribute in this political act that commemorates the 8th anniversary of the physical disappearance of our beloved Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and we do so at the small monument that the member of our Cuban Staff have erected in Abuja, Nigeria.

With the ranks of commander next to the Cuban flag, that stone signifies the strength, the rebellion of all Cubans, which means our resistance to a silent genocide that for more than 64 years has been committed by successive administrations of the United States against the Island, imposing a strict economic, political, commercial and financial blockade with the objective of economically suffocating our people and undermining our revolution.

Unity was one of the principles that always prevailed in the thoughts of Commander Fidel, and which remains in force as a strength of our revolutionary process, which is evident today after the passage of two hurricanes and an unprecedented earthquake in less than 25 days, where all Cubans, in solidarity with our brothers who were harmed by these climatic phenomena, did not hesitate to donate, not what we have left over, but to share what we have.

Fidel's global imprint is undeniable, his timely warning about the risks we would face as a human species, wars, unlimited overexploitation of both human and natural resources, are stronger today than ever. The defense of just causes will continue to be part of his historical legacy for all generations of Cubans, who will not stop raising their voices, against the Israeli Genocide against the Palestinian people, the support for the struggle for self-determination of the people of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and of course we will remain united with our Venezuelan brothers in their struggle against the sanctions imposed, and to maintain the Bolivarian Revolution that will continue because its people have wanted it that way.

We will follow with great pride each lesson learned both in theory and in practice from our forever leader Fidel and we will continue to defend his work that is ours, the Cuban Revolution, with the certainty that Fidel lives in every corner of the country, and that his presence is eternalized in the people.

He ended with a phrase from our National Hero José Martí when he said: Death is not true when the work of life has been well fulfilled.

Thank you, Commander, for your example of spirit and dedication to work, honesty, and sense of justice.

¡Viva Fidel!

¡Viva Cuba!

Patria o Muerte ¡Venceremos!
