Ambassador of Cuba presents Letters of Credence to the President of Malta

Valletta, Malta, 9 March 2023- This morning, in a solemn audience, Ambassador Mirta Granda Averhoff presented to President George Vella the Letters of Credence accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Malta.

The ceremony celebrated in The Valletta Palace, highlighted the potential for closer cooperation and the bonds of respect that have united the two nations since 1977, when bilateral diplomatic relations were established.

In a private meeting with the President, the Ambassador highlighted the similarities between the peoples of Malta and Cuba, underlining self-determination and the defence of their identity and history as identifying characteristics of both countries. She also thanked the Maltese government for its sustained support for the United Nations General Assembly resolution to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba. He also expressed his commitment to work for the strengthening of bilateral ties in all areas.

Afterwards, the President hosted a luncheon for the ambassadors who presented their credentials that day.
