Nassau, January 28, 2025. The State Mission of Cuba in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas is holding a day of tribute to the Apostle of independence on the 172nd Anniversary of his birth, which will extend until to commemorate the 130th anniversary of his death in combat on May 19 in Dos Ríos.
This January 28 is also a day of remembrance of the 17th Anniversary of the creation of the Association of Cuban Residents "Ismaelillo", which put together Cuban residents in The Bahamas around the ideas of Martí.
In several educational centers in The Bahamas, students have among their teachers a group of Cuban resident educators and others who are members of the Félix Varela Educational Cooperation Brigade who have transmitted Martí's work for years.
Cuban teachers working on Inagua Island are working to preserve the monument erected in 2013, which commemorates the Apostle's passage through that territory during his journey from the Dominican Republic to Cuba in 1895, in order to join the War of Independence, and together with their students they lay flowers on each date.
As part of the planned activities, the Mission published on its digital platforms some of the initiatives that resulted from the contribution of Cubans and Bahamians in honor of José Martí.
The digital exhibition "Because children are the hope of the world" includes drawings, writings, audios with recitations of Martí's poems and the teachings that Cuban teachers and parents in the Bahamas have instilled in their students and children.
Last Sunday, January 26, the caravan of bridges of love to ask for the end of the United States blockade of the Cuban people was also the stage for paying tribute, upholding the thought of Martí: "America must promote everything that brings peoples together, and abhor everything that separates them. In this as in all human problems, the future is peace."
