In the morning of today, September 8, Ambassador Caridad Yamira Cueto Milián received H.E. Mrs Donika Hoxta, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Bulgaria.
During a courtesy and work visit, the two Ladies Ambassadors addressed diverse issues on the international and regional agenda, as well as the state of the epidemiological situation in Cuba and Albania. Ambassador Hoxta appreciated the update offered by her Cuban colleague on the results of the Cuban people's battle against Covid-19, including the fruitful efforts being made toward Soberana01; the first Cuban vaccine candidate against the pandemic. They also tackled upon the candidacy of the Cuban medical brigades of the Henry Reeve Internationalist Contingent for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Cuban Ambassador referred to the aggravated and hostile impact of the United States' blockade against Cuba, which in times of pandemic acquires unprecedented and repulsive dimensions. In this context, both Ambassadors welcomed the incipient bilateral ties between Cuba and Albania in the economic-commercial and investment fields, and agreed on the priority of working towards their expansion and strengthening. They also addressed the issue of tourism, in which an expansion of bilateral exchanges has also been revealed.
It was a meeting characterized by respect and friendship, as well as by the mutual interest in strengthening and expanding relations between the two countries, in various fields.
The Republic of Cuba and the Republic of Albania established diplomatic relations on December 15, 1960. Cuba closed the headquarters of its Embassy in Albania in 1992. Since 2006, diplomatic relations between Havana and Tirana are attended by resident Cuban Ambassadors in Sofia, Bulgaria.
