«Fidel Castro taught us to love Africa, especially Namibia. Our relations are not only of friendship, but of close brotherhood», said this Friday the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State.
Upon receiving, in the National Capitol, Lucas Sinimbo Muha, Chairperson of the National Council of the African country; the head of the Cuban Parliament conveyed a warm greeting to the brother Namibian people; to Sam Nujoma, Founding Father of this nation; to Hifikepunye Pohamba and to Nangolo Mbumba, second and current President of the Republic, respectively; and to his counterpart Peter Katjavivi.
"We deeply appreciate the countless displays of solidarity and support for the Cuban Revolution that we have historically received from Namibia and, in particular, from Parliament against the hostile policy of the United States Government towards our country, fundamentally against the blockade," said Esteban Lazo.
He also ratified the will to continue expanding and strengthening interparliamentary ties through various initiatives, including the future signing of a cooperation agreement between both legislative bodies and the work of the permanent working committees and the parliamentary friendship groups in areas of mutual interest.
On the other hand, he highlighted the importance of the visit to Havana by the Chairperson of the Namibian National Council at the head of a delegation that participated in the International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy held at the National Capitol between September 18 and 19, which will contribute to the consolidation of bilateral relations between our countries.
Lucas Sinimbo Muha thanked the invitation to make this official visit to Cuba and the hospitality received in our country. He highlighted the unforgettable presence of a Cuban delegation, headed by Esteban Lazo, to attend the State Funeral of the third President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage G. Geingob, in Windhoek; in February 2024.
He described the Cuban people as "a brother people who have always been with Namibia throughout our history, especially in our struggle for independence."
He also reiterated his strong condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government and the inclusion of our country in the spurious list of alleged State sponsors of terrorism.
Also participating in the fraternal meeting were Homero Acosta, secretary of the Cuban legislature; Rolando González Patricio, president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly; and Jesús Rafael Mora, director of International Relations of the ANPP; among other officials.
