Rome, July 24, 2023 - The UN Food System Summit +2 was opened at the FAO Headquarters with the statement delivered by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.
The event, which brings together representatives of various States and relevant stakeholders will analyse the food systems support in order to provide an update on the progress made since the Summit that took place in 2021.
The Cuban delegation, headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Diosnel San Loys Martínez, will present the country's progress in the implementation of the National Plan for Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education, which is being carried out to reduce dependence on imports, enhance productive capacity, the use of science, technology and innovation, as well as the development of efficient and sustainable food systems at the local level.
Deputy Minister San Loys will explain how the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba imposed by the U.S. government has a negative impact on food systems and how it limits access to financing for the development of the sector.
The meeting will be closed on July 26 and is expected to motivate governments to take solid actions to address the current situation.
