Havana, February 24, 2021.- The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, participated this Wednesday in the panel “The Health Industry at the Service of the Populations”, which was held virtually as part of the event "Strategic Triangle: Latin America-Europe-Africa", sponsored by the Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Ibero-American General Secretariat.
Within the framework of the event, the Cuban deputy minister highlighted the unique impact of the pandemic on our people due to the opportunistic and unprecedented resurgence of the blockade that the United States of America has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, which has prevented access to drugs and technologies to prevent and cure disease. She asserted that, despite this, we have been able to face the pandemic with positive results, thanks to a quality, free and universal public health system, and the development of Cuban science.
During her intervention, Rodríguez Camejo referred to the need to promote international cooperation and solidarity, in a coordinated effort that guarantees universal access to services and medicines to face COVID-19 and its multisectoral impacts.
In this context, she highlighted that during the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Island has contributed modestly by sending 56 medical brigades to 40 countries and territories, in addition to those already serving in 59 nations.
She reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue contributing in terms of collaboration in the area of health in general and in facing the pandemic in particular, and called for the improvement of dialogue mechanisms, as well as designing and working on international opportunities and projects. sets.
