Freetown, February 26, 2024. On Thursday morning, the Cuban Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Ms. Norma Sánchez Águila, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Mr. Zhao Yong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sierra Leone.
During the fraternal meeting, both sides reviewed the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite the two nations, referring also to the excellent state of bilateral relations after 65 years of diplomatic relations.
The Cuban diplomat expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to hold the meeting and provided an update on issues of bilateral interest. In this regard, she thanked China for its historic vote in favor of the Cuban resolution against the blockade at the United Nations General Assembly , highlighting the willingness to continue working together to build a Community of Shared Future, as well as the Caribbean nation's support for the various global initiatives promoted by China to advance the configuration of a multipolar world.
For his part, Zhao Yong reiterated the support of the Chinese people and government for Cuba's struggle to defend its sovereignty and lift the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.
Ambassador Sánchez Águila thanked the Chinese Party, government, and people for their solidarity and support for Cuba in the face of a complex international scenario, noting that China is an important force for safeguarding world peace and represents hope for the Global South.
