Embassy of Cuba visits Kolkata, capital of the State of West Bengal.

Kolkata, 24 January 2025- On 23 and 24 January 2016, Ambassador Juan Carlos Marsan and First Secretary Maiky Diaz Perez paid a visit to Kolkata, West Bengal state of India.

On the occasion of its participation in the XII Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival, the play "Cinderella according to the Beatles" by the Children’s Theatre Company "La Colmenita" was exhibited. In her introductory remarks, the First Secretary highlighted the humanistic values that the work of La Colmenita transmits to new generations. Cuban diplomats exchanged with Mr. Indranil Sen, Minister of State for Information and Culture and other officials from that Indian state, conveying the interest in expanding cultural exchange relations between both sides. They were invited to participate in the 2026 Havana International Film Festival. Several local media reported on the participation of Cuba in this recognized event.

A fruitful meeting was held with the Kolkata Chamber of Commerce and Industry, sharing with participants the opportunities for economic cooperation between India and Cuba in various sectors such as health, education, food production, energy, mining, among others.


The visit programme concluded with an act of solidarity with Cuba, convened by the Friends of Latin America (FOLA) and the All-India Peace and Solidarity organization (AIPSO). 

The event, chaired by MP Bikan Ranjan Bhattacharya and before more than 100 participants, the Ambassador denounced the recent US military aggression in Venezuela, the illegal kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, while rejecting threats against the Cuban people. The attendants demanded the immediate release of Maduro and Cilia, paid tribute to the martyrs killed in this terrorist action and reaffirmed their firm solidarity against the criminal and unjust blockade of our country.
