Freetown, February 24, 2026. - The Cuban Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Norma Sánchez Águila, paid a courtesy visit to the new Director of the Americas-Asia Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Ambassador Dr. Mohamed K. Mansaray, and the new Deputy Director of the Americas-Asia Pacific Department, Ambassador Christopher Bockery. Christopher Bockery
In a cordial meeting, both parties highlighted the bonds of solidarity that unite the two nations and reviewed the state of bilateral relations, possibilities for cooperation, and common positions in the international multilateral arena.
The Cuban diplomat thanked Dr. Mohamed K. Mansaray for his warm welcome, reiterating her gratitude for the solidarity of the Sierra Leonean people with the Cuban people in their struggle against the unjust and cruel economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 60 years.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed thanked the Cuban government for its solidarity and support during the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics, sending Cuban doctors to save the lives of the Sierra Leonean people. He also thanked Cuba for training Sierra Leonean doctors who are now saving lives in different parts of the country.
The head of the Cuban diplomatic mission referred to the current situation in Cuba due to the intensification of the blockade and the unilateral measures taken by the US government against the island, including the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. She conveyed the feelings of the Cuban people and the struggle they are waging to maintain their sovereignty and independence.
