Havana, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP, parliament), Esteban Lazo, today received the speaker of the House of Representatives of Trinidad and Tobago, Bridgid Annisette-George, on an official visit to Cuba.
At the National Capitol, seat of the Cuban legislature, the President of the Council of State of the Republic welcomed the Trinidadian delegation and expressed the desire to strengthen bilateral ties.
Relations between the two Caribbean states, Lazo recalled, were cemented by visits to that island nation by the historic leader of the revolutionary process, Fidel Castro, and by Army General Raúl Castro, under the concept of integration through parliamentary unity.
Cuba is fully prepared to work on joint cooperation projects and there are great opportunities in sectors such as public health, education, sports, agriculture and construction, said the head of the Cuban parliament.
He also highlighted the presence on Trinidadian soil of more than 80 collaborators who provide services to the population, in addition to a similar number of specialists from that country who graduated from Cuban universities.
He also explained aspects of the functioning of the Permanent Working Commissions and the links they maintain with their counterparts in other countries, as well as the work of the friendship group with Trinidad and Tobago.
For her part, Bridgid Annisette-George expressed her interest in establishing a friendship group with Cuba in her nation, for which she presented a Letter of Intent to the parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
At the same time, he highlighted the achievements of the largest Antillean island, including the production of vaccines even in the midst of economic difficulties, reasons for which, he said, his country will continue to support the end of the United States blockade against Cuba.
Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago formalized diplomatic relations in December 1972.
