Members of Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone receive Cuban Ambassador

Freetown, February 19, 2026. The Chairman of the International Relations Committee, the Honorable Mohamed Bangura, together with the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, the Honorable Salu Sesay, and the Secretary of the International Relations Committee, Mr. Mannah K. Berewa, received the Cuban Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Norma Sánchez Águila, at the seat of the legislative branch.

During the cordial exchange, both parties agreed on the importance of establishing bilateral ties between the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba and the Parliament of Sierra Leone.   They also noted that there are numerous areas of common interest that favor the development of joint actions between both parliamentary institutions.

The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to explain in detail the difficult economic situation her country is going through, due to the systematic intensification of the blockade by President Trump's administration with the clear intention of suffocating the Caribbean island through an oil and trade blokade, which includes threats of sanctions against third countries that trade with Cuba.
For his part, the Honorable Mohamed Bangura highlighted the Sierra Leone Parliament's ongoing support and solidarity with Cuba.
