On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people, we transmit our deep sorrow for the physical loss of fellow comrade Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo, icon of the Namibian people and co-founder of SWAPO.
Toivo Ya Toivo was a true fighter against the oppression of the apartheid regime. He suffered detention and prison at Robben Island during 16 years. He was a permanent militant in the struggle for Namibia´s freedom and independence, for social justice, and against racism.
Historical and intimate friend of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Revolution, Toivo Ya Toivo will live forever in our minds and our hearts. He was a paradigm for the defence of the Cuban Revolution. We will always remember him as a vigorous speaker of the struggle against the blockade and the release of the Cuban Five. Until the last moments of his life it was right next to us, as evidenced by his presence in the V Continental African Solidarity Meeting with Cuba just finalised in Windhoek.
We want to express to our comrades in the SWAPO Party, to the entire Toivo Ya Toivo´s family and to all Namibian people, our deepest condolences. We remember fellow Toivo Ya Toivo as a revolutionary, as an eternal fighter for social justice and equality for all. He gloriously served the maximum of our national hero José Martí: "Death is not true when the life's work has been well done."
Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
