Freetown, June 29, 2026. Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honorable Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, received the Cuban Ambassador, Ms. Norma Sánchez Águila, on Monday at the headquarters of the Sierra Leonean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Cuban ambassador thanked the head of Sierra Leonean diplomacy for welcoming her despite his busy schedule.
Sánchez Águila provided Foreign Minister Musa Kabba with an update on the difficult economic and energy situation currently facing her country, exacerbated by the prolonged and genocidal blockade imposed by the U.S. government against the island, in addition to its recent executive orders of January 29 and May 1 of this year, which are causing significant harm and disrupting the daily lives of the Cuban people.
During the meeting, the Cuban official expressed gratitude for Sierra Leone’s support of the Cuban resolution against the blockade within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly.
For his part, the host Foreign Minister reaffirmed the historic friendly relations between Cuba and Sierra Leone and reiterated his country’s unwavering position on the issue of the blockade against Cuba, based on the resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and governed by the principles of international law.
