Freetown, February 19, 2026.- The Minister of Sports of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Honorable Ms. Augusta James-Teima, received the Cuban Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Ms. Norma Sánchez Águila, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Sports.
During the cordial exchange, both parties agreed on the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral ties between the Ministry of Sports of Sierra Leone and Inder. They also noted that there are numerous areas of common interest that favor the development of joint actions between both sports institutions.
The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to explain in detail the difficult economic situation her country is going through, due to the systematic intensification of the blockade by President Trump's administration with the clear intention of suffocating the Caribbean island through an oil and trade embargo, which includes threats of sanctions against third countries that trade with Cuba.
For her part, the Honorable Ms. James-Teima Mohamed Bangura highlighted the ongoing support and solidarity with Cuba from the government and people of Sierra Leone.
