A group of young people, led by Fidel Castro, placed themselves at the forefront of the fight for the true independence of Cuba. In the year of the centenary of the national hero José Martí, on July 26, 1953, they carried out the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, in the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo respectively.
The assault on the Moncada barracks ended in a military defeat, however, it had extraordinary significance for the Cuban people and for the national liberation movement that was beginning.
Although the feat of that day ended in a military defeat, the events that took place were momentous for the Cuban people and for the national liberation movement that was beginning.
With this action, a period of struggle began that did not end until the defeat of the tyranny, and created the bases for the socio-economic and political transformation that the situation in Cuba demanded.
At the time, the Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, declared that: “the Moncada taught us to turn setbacks into victories… Trenches of ideas were more powerful than trenches of stones… and it left us the permanent lesson of perseverance and tenacity in just purposes”.
The 68th Anniversary of the assault on the Moncada garrison will be remembered in Cuba, on July 26, as it happened in its authentic setting, to pay tribute to the fallen in the epic action directed by the young lawyer Fidel Castro Ruz.
The conditions of the Covid will not prevent us from recalling the poetry "It was the morning of Santa Ana", by Indio Naborí or the poem by Raúl Gómez García "We are already in combat", to highlight the celebration.
The discrediting campaign against Cuba, financed with federal funds from the United States and the Florida government, provoked acts of vandalism as the Gene Sharp manual indicates with absolute precision, an action well planned from the outside, which had high technology, promoted with hundreds of fake accounts, bots and trolls, with lies and misrepresentations, to incite disorder and violence that would justify an intervention.
The defeat unleashed the hysteria of its promoters and its ideologues, who deliberately and cruelly continue the hostility they inherited from the government of US President Donald Trump, who identified the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to reinforce the genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade.
The more than 243 measures applied to suffocate the island are still maintained by the current Biden administration, which completely ignores the global claim of the international community that has demanded at the UN to put an end to the six-decade genocide against Cuba.
Our people, who have shown proofs of heroism, love and solidarity, will continue alongside their Government in defense of a Socialist State of Law and Social Justice, with the ability to protect our nation, our independence, and our sovereignty.
