SOLIDARITY STATEMENT ON 73RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE JULY 26 MOVEMENT

The Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCIF-PFS), with headquarters in Africa, joins the global community to extend profound greetings and solidarity to the Government and good People of the Caribbean nation of Cuba on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the 26 July Movement. Seventy-three years (73) ago, today, a group of patriotic, forward-looking and brave revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Military Barracks in Santiago de Cuba as they moved to liberate the Cuban nation from the stranglehold of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.
The event of July 26th, Movement, sparked the wind that brought about the demise of the Batista dictatorship and the dawn of the New Revolutionary Cuba. This Movement remains today the symbol of hope for the oppressed humankind. The failed attack on the Moncada Barracks in 1953 did not stop the revolution from achieving stated goals. Five years later, on 1st January, 1959 the Movement finally succeeded in removing the dictatorship of United States puppet Batista. Today, July 26th is marked annually as a major holiday in Cuba.
Over the past sixty-seven (67) years, Cuba has shown the way for other revolutionary-minded people around the world. While many revolutionary movements collapsed or fell into self-betrayal to succumb to US imperialism, Cuba has always remained a true friend to Africa and supported the continent to carry the revolutionary struggle forward.
Cuba played a pivotal role in dismantling the obnoxious apartheid enclave in Africa. Despite all challenges faced as a result of US hostile policies and collective punishment, Cuba has not abandoned Africa for anything. The Caribbean nation is sending medical aid to the weaker member-states of the United Nations, and Africa has received the help of Cuban medics and other humanitarian solidarity.
On this historic day we stand in solidarity with the people of Cuba, who continue to face challenges in their fight for sovereignty and homeland dignity; and pay solemn tribute to their indomitable spirit and resilience.
The situation in the Caribbean nation should be a matter of emergency for global conscience. Since the return of Donald Trump to the White House in Washington, the United States has unabashedly intensified its efforts to destabilise the Cuban nation. By muzzling the media, demonising the Cuban leadership and attempting to implement regime change in Havana, the Trump administration in Washington seeks to rape the resources of Cuba with the help of domestic traitors and foreign criminal adventurers.
US imperialism is in serious trouble and it’s declining by the hour, and now turns the gauntlet towards Cuba, which has formed a resistance against foreign oppression. As it faces challenges to its domination all over the globe, Washington has intensified its criminal wars, including its outdated policies and prejudices towards the people of Cuba. It is even more urgent for the global community to stand in solidarity with Cuba and all those other countries that are being threatened today by US imperialism.
A society that, regardless of the brutal sanctions and blockade, Cuba still sends help, solidarity, doctors, and medicines to other nations instead of war machines, bombs and missiles. Cuba’s development and prosperity agenda put the interest of the people first before any speculation by speculation. The great people of Cuba have overcome all those adversities, difficulties, ill-intentioned attacks and collective punishment for over six decades and will continue to form resistance against any foreign aggression or oppression.
As we all join our voices with the Cuban people to observe this historic anniversary, we wish to commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines who fought to liberate humanity from the manipulative mechanism of imperialism. The lessons of 26th July, 1953 Movement teaches that-another world is possible, to quote the words of the late Cuban revolutionary icon, Fidel Castro. The sacrifices made by those heroes and heroines must not be thrown to the dustbin of history, but should be remembered annually.
Having stated the above, the Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCIF-PFS) once again joins its voice with the Government and people of Cuba, in their longstanding and just demand for an end to the obnoxious blockade and other coercive measures and collective punishment. Cuba is not alone, and thus we demand that the Caribbean nation be immediately, unconditionally and permanently removed from the US list of States presumed Sponsors of Terrorism.
The debilitating impacts of the US blockade are felt in every corner of Cuba, and are causing immense suffering amongst Cubans due to shortage of basic needs to meet the demand of the Cuban people. Those architects of the criminal blockade feel arrogant in their desire to destroy the Cuban nation. The HCIF-PFS demand also the return of Guantanamo territories to the Cuban people. We support the sovereign right of the Cuban and people to decide on the future direction of the Bolivarian people.
Concluding, we urge the international community represented by the United Nations to move beyond mere voting against continuation of the US criminal blockade and exert pressure to bear on Washington to stop its hatreds for the Cuban people. We reiterate that we will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Cuban people forever.
