The US conquest of Venezuela must be condemned
The US attack on Venezuela is blatant imperialist aggression. With the aim of stealing a sovereign country’s resources and exploiting its wealth, on 3 January the US carried out a military campaign against Venezuela and even kidnapped Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Everyone must condemn this act of terrorism, this campaign of conquest.
The aggression is a logical follow-up to decades of economic and political warfare waged by the US, Denmark and the EU against Venezuela and its people.
We do not fall for attempts to portray the attack on Venezuela as if it were not imperialist aggression. Rhetorical tricks – such as portraying Venezuela as “authoritarian” and the United States as “democratic” – serve no purpose other than to justify theft, murder and kidnapping.
Shortly after the aggression, the United States declared that its intention was to “take back the oil.” Trump is merely the latest political representative of the economic power of the American oligarchy. He speaks and acts directly on behalf of the interests of Exxon executives in reacquiring the world’s largest known oil reserves in Venezuela.
The aggression does not come out of the blue, but reflects the broader economic interests of the West. It is the system that works exactly as intended. It does not work for peace, but for Wall Street’s wallets. It does not work for democracy for the people, but for the interests of the empire.
The US aggression cannot therefore be seen as an isolated event, but is part of a broader pattern of violence perpetrated by the US and its European allies on a global scale. It is not solely the fault of individual leaders or specific governments but is a logical consequence of the functioning of imperialism.
The aggression itself has far-reaching consequences for countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean. Not least, it also represents an attempt to further stifle and isolate socialist Cuba. And the consequences will be even more far-reaching if the US succeeds in “controlling Venezuela”, as Trump declares he wants to do.
For years, the Danish government and the EU have supported the US in its Monroe Doctrine policy, which has sought to stifle Venezuela through economic sanctions. At the same time, they have remained completely silent in the run-up to the new aggression. While the US acted like pirates and executioners in the Caribbean Sea, the governments of Denmark and the EU took no steps to protest against this piracy, which is contrary to international law. They are thus jointly responsible for these criminal acts.
The Western media has willingly made itself available to secure public consent and acceptance of the economic, cultural and military warfare against the Venezuelan government and its people. Cultural institutions have even gone so far as to use the Nobel Peace Prize as a weapon to pave the way for “regime change”.
They have therefore lost all legitimacy.
Western governments have spent millions of dollars over the years trying to influence elections in Venezuela, used sanctions to put pressure on the entire population, and carried out direct military coups to deprive the Venezuelan people of their power.
Now the United States has bombed several places in Venezuela and kidnapped the Venezuelan president and his wife. This is terrorism.
The Communist Party condemns all forms of kidnapping and assassination attempts against leaders in countries around the world. The US and its allies have no mandate to act as judge, jury and executioner, and any attempt to do so must be condemned.
We demand:
That the Danish government unconditionally and unreservedly condemn the American aggression.
That the Foreign Minister summon the American ambassador for talks to hold the US accountable for its violation of the UN Charter.
That the Danish government work to ensure that Nicolás Maduro and his wife are returned to Venezuela.
That the Danish government work within the EU to lift the sanctions against Venezuela.
The US, which is in relative and absolute decline, disregards all international norms and acts aggressively and barbarically. Its plan for total domination of the Western Hemisphere has been presented clearly and openly by the Trump administration – and concrete steps have been taken to implement these plans. Right now in Venezuela. But then others will follow. From Canada to Greenland.
Silence or weak references to “international law must be respected”, as Mette Frederiksen, for example, has made, are not enough. They simply legitimise the aggressive actions of the United States. Concrete resistance is needed. The Danish government must change course before there is more blood on its hands.
This new round of bloodshed is not happening in our name!
We wholeheartedly support the Venezuelan people and their government in their struggle for national self-determination.
Viva Venezuela!
On behalf of the Communist Party’s International Committee, Kaivon Kjems, 3 January 2026.
