STATEMENT FROM THE SIERRA LEONE - CUBAN FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION (SALCUBA) IN RESPECT OF US BLOCKADE OF FUEL SUPPLIES TO CUBA.

It is quite disheartening to learn that the USA government imposed a total blockade of fuel supplies to Cuba in recent times, and also threatened to impose trade tariffs on imports of products from countries that supply oil to the Caribbean nation.

This was following the recent USA undemocratic seizure of power in Venezuela that led to the capture of its President, Nicolas Maduro, who is now facing court charges on several allegations in the city of New York.

For the USA to assert that Cuba constitutes " an unusual and extraordinary threat" to the national security of their country is not only a potentially misleading statement, but a defamatory accusation against a country that has stood heroically against their inhuman economic blockade for over 60 years since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

Third world countries in particular have always been known to be subjected to threats, blackmail and even direct application of brutal forces by succeeding USA. governments.

The attempt therefore to impose additional pressure by preventing fuel from entering the country clearly indicates a nefarious way of forcefully imposing USA's foreign policies, by way of entrenching and consolidating its hold on much weaker economies.

Cuba, like Venezuela, deserves the right to dictate their sovereign powers.  They have all the right to dictate which category of nations they can trade with and to which they can export their domestic products.

By all indications, it has become abundantly clear that it is the government of the US that is threatening the tranquility, stability of Latin American & the Caribbean countries, including the world at large.

SALCUBA therefore condemns in no unmistakable terms the US A terrorism act against Cuba in all its forms and dimensions.

Cuba anticipates a constructive engagement with the USA government that will usher in an atmosphere of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence between the two countries. It is quite necessary that the ban be totally lifted, so that Cuba enjoys the RESPECT and Dignity they deserve.
