100 kilograms of Medicines for Cuba from Slovenia

Ljubljana, April 28, 2026.—A group of five Slovenian students departed today for Havana with a valuable shipment of aid: approximately 100 kilograms of medicines, nutritional supplies, water purification tablets, and infant formula.

This initiative is part of the “Break the Blockade” campaign (“Prebijmo embargo” in Slovenian), an initiative by the Slovenian student association ISKRA aimed at alleviating the impact of the U.S. blockade against Cuba. The medicines will be delivered to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

Although the idea originated before the January 2026 Executive Order, it was the energy blockade that motivated the students to act quickly. They report having received numerous expressions of support from youth organizations, associations, and individuals. “What Cuba needs most right now is support, compassion, and solidarity, as well as condemnation of the senseless and illegal embargo,” said Luka Rotar.

The university students—Lovro Marinčič, Tinkara Rakovec, Luka Rotar, Jan Vajgl, and Erik Žnidaršič—will not only deliver the donation but will also join the Cuban people in celebrating International Workers’ Day in Cuba. They will also gather information to raise awareness among the Slovenian public about the impact of the blockade on the Cuban people, which they will present upon their return to their country, including at an event organized in collaboration with the Cuban Embassy.

ISKRA is a Slovenian socialist student association composed of students from various faculties, as well as young workers. Since 2025, ISKRA has actively joined the international solidarity movement with Cuba, particularly in denouncing the blockade.
