Cuba: UN experts condemn new US sanctions as humanitarian crisis deepens
GENEVA (6 August 2026) – UN human rights experts* today condemned recent measures by the United States against Cuba, denouncing them as an attempt to alter the constitutional order of a sovereign State through threats and coercion.

As part of the celebrations marking the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) and the Cuban Embassy in Austria organized a moving tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. The event, held at the ÖKG headquarters in Vienna, culminated in a screening of the documentary “Fidel es Fidel” by renowned Cuban filmmaker Roberto Chile.

Vienna, June 30, 2026—The Cuban Embassy in Austria expresses its deep sorrow at the passing of our dear friend Maximilian Reiss, a distinguished Austrian collector who dedicated his life to promoting Cuban art in Europe. Reiss was the founder and director of the Cuban Museum of Fine Arts, the first museum of Cuban art in Europe, which opened in 2010 in the former headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Vienna—a space that became the first museum exclusively dedicated to Cuban art outside the island.
