“65 Texts Against 65 Years of the Blockade” in Solidarity with Cuba from Austria

Linz, September 22, 2026 — The Upper Austria chapter of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) organized an event at the Volksgarten in Linz titled “65 Texts Against 65 Years of the Blockade” (65 Texte gegen 65 Jahre Blockade) at the Volksgarten in Linz, with the aim of denouncing the 65 years of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, while calling on the international community to draw attention to this inhumane blockade policy that violates international law.

During the event, the ÖKG presented participants with various works and texts reflecting the reality of life in Cuba under the blockade. Attendees read aloud the short texts they had prepared and, through literature and personal testimonies, highlighted the widespread impact of the blockade on the daily lives of the Cuban people, as well as in areas such as health, education, and energy.

The Upper Austrian regional chapter of the ÖKG frequently organizes solidarity campaigns with Cuba and, through street festivals, rallies, cultural events, and projects such as “Blockadebrecher” (“Blockade Breaker”), continually expands the base of support for Cuba within Austrian society.

The ÖKG event in Linz demonstrated that Austrian civil society is responding to the challenges posed by the blockade through a combination of cultural outreach and political appeals. The solidarity movement in Austria provides moral support and practical assistance to the Cuban people, making it an important force within the international community in the fight against unilateral coercive measures and in the defense of Cuba’s sovereignty and dignity.
