In the Legislative Building of the province of Ontario, a ceremony was held to raise the Cuban flag on the 66th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution.
The event, organized by the Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto, was attended by important authorities of the province of Ontario; members of the Cuban community; representatives of the consular corps from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Europe; members of solidarity organizations and friendly political parties.
During the ceremony, Ontario authorities expressed congratulatory messages. The Assistant Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Michael Tibollo, in his speech highlighted the great values of the Cuban people and also conveyed the message of Premier Doug Ford. In addition, a joint message was read out by Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) and leader of the New Democratic Party, Marit Stiles, and MPP Ted Hsu; and MPP Bonnie Crombie, leader of the Liberal Party.
The Consul General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Fitzgerald Hughins, spoke on behalf of the Caribbean Consular Corps accredited in this city. He highlighted Cuba's solidarity with the Caribbean and the imprint of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, and condemned the US blockade against our people.
For her part, Vida Carranza read the message of the Association of Cubans ‘Juan Gualberto Gómez’, which highlights the will of the Cuban community to continue supporting the people and government of our country, and demands an end to the US blockade and the exclusion of Cuba from its unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
The Consul General, Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, stressed the importance of the 66th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution for Cuba and the world, and condemned the hostile US policy towards our country. In bilateral matters, he reaffirmed the great potential for continuing to expand relations with Canada, stressing that this year marks the 80th anniversary of interrupted diplomatic relations. He reaffirmed that the consulate will continue to work to strengthen and expand the ties that unite the two peoples.
A well-deserved tribute was paid to our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro who, on a day like today, entered Havana with the Caravan of Freedom and changed our history forever.
