Indicting sovereignty: Washington’s specious case against Raúl Castro and the criminalization of Cuba’s right to self-defence

The recent decision by the U.S. Department of Justice to indict Raúl Castro over the 1996 shoot-down of aircraft belonging to Brothers to the Rescue is not an act of justice. It is a profoundly political maneuver designed to intensify Washington’s decades-long campaign against the Cuban Revolution while rewriting the historical record of U.S. aggression against Cuba.

Toronto, May 16, 2026.— Associations of the Cuban community residing in Canada held the 19th National Meeting of Cubans in Toronto, with the participation of approximately 50 representatives from Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.

Cuba: an evening of solidarity in the face of the blockade

On May 2, in Montreal, a fundraising evening organized by the Cuba Por Siempre collective brought together around one hundred people who came to express their solidarity with the Cuban people. Music, food, speeches, and fundraising were all part of this initiative, born in a context of humanitarian emergency marked by shortages and power outages affecting the Island for several months.
