Remembering Fidel’s legacy in Montreal on his Centennial

Montreal — Cuba solidarity movements in Quebec, Cuban residents, and members of the Consulate General of Cuba in Montreal gathered on August 13 to commemorate Fidel’s legacy on the occasion of his centennial.

Consul General Yamari Pérez Viera highlighted Fidel’s example, as well as his legacy of sovereignty and social justice.

During the political-cultural event, audiovisual material featuring testimonies from prominent figures who knew the Commander in Chief, including renowned journalist Ignacio Ramonet and Cuban journalist Katiuska Blanco, was shown.

The tribute, organized by the Quebec-Cuba Solidarity Concertation Table, was also attended by the distinguished Haitian poet and writer Marie-Célie Agnant.

The novelist, who holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Université du Québec à Montréal, recited the poems “Midi” and “Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz: Guerrillero del Tiempo!”, both written by her and dedicated to the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Members of the “Raúl Roa García” Association of Cubans Residents in Montreal reaffirmed their commitment to Fidel’s legacy and their continued support for the revolutionary cause. They also expressed their gratitude for the support of Cuba solidarity movements in Quebec.
